                          UKULELE 101

Music has always been important to Evan Stern & Julie Holloman. They both
studied music in middle school and high school. Evan continued his music studies at the University of Nevada, Reno and Truckee Meadows Community College. He played with the University Orchestra, the Carson City Pops, and the Carson Valley Symphony.


Julie studied Music Education at the University of Nevada Reno, and graduated Suma Cum Laude with a B.S. in Music Education. She was hired right out of college by the Washoe County School District, and taught K-6 Elementary Music for 13 years. While teaching in the School District she received the Distinguished Service Award for outstanding teaching from both the Music Department and the School District.


In December 2009 Julie Holloman established the Aria School of Music & Art in Reno, and Evan Stern started teaching there. Aria is a 501(c)(3) non-profit music school, and is able to help students receive private lessons at little or no cost. Aria is home to the Reno Ukulele Group, and offers 3 ukulele classes, including a class through Truckee Meadows Community College. Private uke lessons are also available.


Julie Holloman is currently the Administrator at the Aria School and teaches piano, voice, mandolin, guitar, and ukulele. Evan Stern teaches banjo, bass, cello, guitar, violin and ukulele. Evan & Julie have co-written a Uke Strum Workshop and a Uke Fingerstyle Workshop which they present at Aria every few months. Evan plays Tenor Uke, Cello, & Bass in 2 professional groups. He has written and arranged music for Solo Uke, and Uke Ensemble. He has performed at the Reno Ukulele Festival for 4 years, and also performed at the annual Aria Artown Uke Concert and many other venues in the Reno/Carson area.


Julie plays Tenor Uke, Guitar, and sings in 3 professional groups and plays solo Flamenco ukulele. She has written and arranged music for Solo Flamenco Uke, and Uke Ensemble. She presented Flamenco Uke Workshops at Reno Uke Fest 2015 and 2016. She has performed at the Reno Ukulele Festival for 4 years, and also performed at the annual Aria Artown Uke Concert and many other venues in the Reno/Carson area.
